Our favorite place to stay on the boardwalk!

The public areas of this property were beautiful and clean, all of the staff I encountered were wonderful. But in my room, the chair and carpet had dirty spots and had stray fibers on them. The bedding appeared to be fresh and clean, but panels on one wall and set of drawers were half-ripped off, looking shoddy. The sink drained of water very slowly, backing up while using it, and there was only one extra roll of toilet paper and one extra box of tissues, and the initial ones were not fresh ones when I checked in, but already partly used! These things are unacceptable for the cost of $400+ per night! Yes, I only had a 2-night stay, but what if someone has a cold, or gastric distress? There should be much more extra tissues and toilet paper in the room without having to ask housekeeping! The plumbing should be well-maintained and the furnishings kept in good repair. Poor rating for the room.

Bottom line is this property needs a complete remodel. Our tlhree night stay was terrible because of a lack of hot water. No hot water for three days. Cold showers, not even luke warm. The staff responded by trying to find rooms that had hot water, but none were available. Carpeting in our room was stained and look like it had not been cleaned. The ice machine on our floor did not work. Overall, the building needs to be remodeled and brought up to date.

Hotel nice and clean, friendly helpful staff. The hair conditioner was empty in shower, reported it to the maid who spoke only Spanish. Informed lady at the desk on checking out. My card has a handicap placard due to me having a broken foot and my cousin has COPD, had to park in the parking deck and walk to the hotel. It would have been nice to have more handicap parking spaces.

Pros: Great location, with great restaurants, bars, and entertainment located right there. Beautiful views from very nice balconies. Friendly staff. Nice lobby and restaurant. Cons: Hardware was broken on our tub and our deadbolt was broken when we arrived, and it didn't look like they had plans to fix any of it. The air conditioner fan was very loud. The hallways were very dirty, including trash that stayed on the carpet for our entire four night stay. The elevators seemed to be barely working, with one out of order. They took forever to get to you, the things that tell you what floor are they are on were broken, and you have to scan your key to get to your floor which worked sometimes and not others, so we were often stranded on the elevator going from floor to floor trying to get upstairs. They didn't clean the room or take our trash at all during our four night stay. I didn't use the pool, but it was down a long dark hallway with windows facing a garage. They charge $15 per day for self parking, or $35 a day for valet. The self parking is across the street. We chose self parking, but at the end of our visit they charged us for valet. They fixed it with a phone call, but it felt very sketchy.

Once was enough for us, the rooms need a facelift but the real trouble started the second night when the roaches came out. We called the front desk and they sent a gentleman up, he sprayed insecticide all over the room and left. We couldn’t breathe the air in that room so we packed up our belongings and changed rooms. After the change there was no more roach activity observed for the remainder of our stay. In the morning when we checked out of the hotel we spoke to a manager whom is clearly well versed in excuses. She denied having roaches and instead called them water bugs. We have plenty of pictures and video from our first room clearly showing roaches. The compensation we received was 4 cookies, free parking. We will be going back to the Holliday inn on 39th. Holliday inn may need a facelift all around but it’s always been exceptionally clean.

The staff checking me in and out of the hotel weren’t very personable. They could care less.

When we visit Virginia Beach, we always stay with Doubletree. First, it's Hilton property, so you feel confident the accommodations will be on point. Also, it's ocean front. There's an on-site restaurant and others close by if you prefer to expand your taste. There's even food delivery, so you don't have to go out to eat. There's a trolley stop just feet from the door, so you don't even have to drive everywhere. Now for the cons. This stay was a tad different, not Doubletree's fault though. The International Sandsculpting Championship is being held in Virginia Beach and the very large tent used for the competition was right in the back of the hotel. Though it wasn't preventing beach goers from enjoying the beach, it was an unexpected sight to look out and have that huge tent in our view too. But, we could still see the ocean and that's one of our reasons for being in Virginia Beach anyway. You also have to prepare your mind that there may be bands playing close by, like below your balcony. Which is great if their style of music fits your taste.

The beach view was amazing. Housekeeping did not clean our room for entire stay but did provide towels uptrend request. The pool water was too murky for my kids to feel comfortable swimming in it. The property needs a deep clean and some more maintenance. The restaurant was delicious.

There was a little confusion over the prepay breakfast (one staff member said I had it another told me no), even though it was purchased. This was sorted out. I was unable to look up account and balances on the tv bc I booked through expedia, but that’s never been an issue at other hotels. Please note, they only clean the room daily if you request it. Great view and overall had a nice time.

The beach was great! The hotel was ok. Constant smell of marijuana through the building and balcony areas. Our room even smelled when we entered. The parking lot garage was off property and not well lit either.
