D The smell was horrible outside the hotel.

The entrance and bar were very nice. We arrived in August expecting to enjoy lazy afternoons by the pool and explore Savannah in the evenings. I booked a poolside room and was so excited. When we got there the pool was under construction. We were not made aware of this at all. They upgraded our room but it was dirty and gross. We cancelled our second night and headed back home..I tried to add photos but couldn't for dinner reason

Very beautiful place. Perfect location for exploring the city.

The DeSoto is a nice hotel but unfortunately, I wouldn't say it is memorable. We had a nice corner room with a small balcony. There's only one seat on the balcony so my husband and I couldn't enjoy it together. The room itself was clean and nicely appointed. The shower was a little dirty and rundown. Having a pool there was really nice but it doesn't look like the pictures on the website. All in all, I would say it was just ok.

Our bathroom plumbing backed up through no fault of our own, flooding the floor and bringing brown sewage up through the shower. The staff responded quickly and moved us to another room, which we appreciated. Very disturbing experience though. The second room had a strange smell and an extremely loud AC unit that made it difficult to sleep. Overall, the hotel rooms and furnishings are very worn and dated. The DeSoto used to be my favorite hotel in Savannah, so it’s especially disappointing to see how far it has gone downhill. We won’t be staying here again.

However, we found staff to be less than helpful upon arrival which is super important. We were left to find and figure out how to get our bags into the hotel and navigate the lobby which was quite busy. Not a good first impression, but after that we were good.

The staff was wonderful and the location was wonderful. I ended up cutting my stay short. The hotel is very old. The hallways are dark and remind me of the shining. The room was spacious but the shower groaned as it sprayed water and the water was sporadically pouring out in fits and spurts. The door to the balcony didn’t lock shut. There was a thin layer of dust around the room and a musty smell.

We had a smooth check in and checkout process but amenities and hotel itself felt dated for the money we paid.
