    Overall positive.

No help with the bags upon checking in. No help with the bags when leaving. And people expect to be tipped? $450 for the room….for what? Pictures of the listing make this hotel look like it’s brand new. Feels like an old bank building masked as a hotel…oh wait

Chose this hotel because it was walkable to the San Diego Civic Center, in case we didn’t want to Uber it. Hotel met our needs. Little pricey for overnight valet parking…$70. Would stay there again.

It is a beautiful historical hotel that used to be a bank building - you can actually see a meeting room that's in an old vault/safe which is really cool. I booked this 30 minutes before I checked in and it was seamless. The front desk was so nice and helpful while the bartender was friendly and provided great recommendations of local eats and places to see. The rooms had great city views and were comfy. There's also a public parking garage around the corner. It was wonderful to experience the "old" Marriott hospitality.

This hotel has a neat history and is right in the heart of downtown. Their check in staff was very kind. They did say we’d have maid service; however, it was not done. Not a big deal overall. Staff helped the kids set-up their gaming system when they encountered an issue. Would stay here again. Thank you.

The staff were so kind, the historical location is so nice and the decor is amazing Being at downtown a lot of homeless

Location is convenient to the House of Blues, next door. Gaslamp District is a few blocks down the street. Room was decent and had a historic charm. Wish it had convenient/low priced parking, and there are homeless around.

Great place to stay, right outside Gaslamp. Close enough to walk and far enough to be away from the riff raff. This was a great location for what we needed amd wanted

Enjoyed the greatest long vacation, part of it involved a 4 night stay in San Diego where I haven't spent a day nor a night in a few decades. I knew a lot about the building which used to be a bank. Got the best room with the best view, looking south.

It was close to our concert at Petco Park. The room was not accessible any earlier than 4:00 pm. There was no handicap parking, actually no parking. There was valet service but I wasn’t aware that it was $70 per night. Public parking while cheaper at $45, that was per entrance. It would have been $90 for that day or more.

    Overpriced.

illing to pay extra for all of this but they werent I finally did an door dash order and had it delivered and they agreed to receive it and put it in the room. But when we got there everything was just on the table or the fridge, nothing laid out. Didn't even put the flowers in a vase. And instead of sparling cider (like Martinellis) is was just two sodas. The note was just on a hotel postcard. I mean there was some effort at the end so I don't want to blame the indivial workers, just shows that hotel culture itself is not one of going out of their way and not really a place to go if you want extra care and attention. We still have an enjoyable weekend and it was great way to The hotel is a cool building and I love that they have kept many of the historical features. The basement is super cool with the original vaultsetx.

Quirky atmosphere. Helpful staff. Nice room.

  • Engine customer Aug 2026

Clean and the building is big

  • Engine customer Aug 2026

Good hotel, expensive parking, location felt a little seedy compared to area further south in Gaslight District. Close to many attractions.

  • Engine customer Aug 2026

It’s an impressive building! Historic and the rooms are spacious.

Very cool historic building. Front desk staff and restaurant staff were friendly and professional. Valet costs is ridiculous at $70/day with no alternatives. And the valet staff is always overwhelmed — we had to wait a good 20 minutes blocking traffic while one guy moved cars closer together to make maroon for us on the curb. Getting your car takes 15-20 minutes each time. Valet team is friendly, it’s just not an ideal set up. No iron in the room. There was no ice maker on our floor so we had to go to another floor for ice. You can only get regular Starbucks coffee (no other morning drink options) at the bar when someone is there which isn’t until 6 am. There are no hooks in the bathroom for towels so you only have the towel bar to hang towels to dry. While the building is secure, it didn’t feel safe to walk around the area at night. Was woken up at 3 am on a Sunday morning by a very loud argument between two guys and a woman. Had to listen to them screaming for nearly an hour despite calling the front desk. To be fair, the hotel did send someone up to put a stop to it after I called…however, as soon as the hotel staff member left, round 2 began. I don’t know how a hotel this large can be safe and watched over with so little overnight staff. I did have breakfast at the restaurant one morning and it was delicious and the server was very friendly and professional. I hate to leave a negative review but given the price of this stay, I expected more.
